Shawn, Kerry, Dave
Resurrection Day 2003
Just a little bit about starting a fellowship, church, community of believers, etc. here in Terre Haute, IN.

I, dave, plan to advertise this site in our local newspaper on July 12.  Have not determined a direction; will discuss with those who respond.

I pastored churches in Indiana, Wyoming and Michigan for eleven years and have a M.A. in Ministry and a B.A. in Bible/Theology from Moody Bible Institute.

I see many good people in our churches and so even though I am a critic of the professing Church I still see many people who want to follow God.

And I see many people who don't who are in leadership positions in our churches.  Sat in on a church board meeting lately?  Oh, yeah!

I moreso have a burning desire to follow God and please him than I do in starting a church.  However, it seems that this is what he is leading me to so here I am doing all this stuff, and happy to do it.

Basis of what we plan --

Jesus Christ. . .

the words of God

honesty and truth in our lives, not just in our heads

". . .we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God" (1 Corinthians 1:23-24 NIV).
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV).
Interested in being part of a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ in Terre Haute, IN?
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ" (Ephesians 4:14-15 NIV)

"Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body" (Ephesians 4:25 NIV).

"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place" (Ephesians 6:14 NIV).
There is more to be said, but I can't say it all at one time, can I?

Hopefully, you will be able to surf the site and see what I believe God is stirring in my heart.

Honesty in worship, right before God by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, solid Bible teaching, open and honest expression with each other  -- help along this pilgrim path, practical help for one another, support, encouragement. . .

The things that we see at least in face-value in the Church but can we  allow God to make it real as we step onto the frontier by faith because without faith it is impossible to please God.

Where has truth gone?  It is not a mistake or happenstance that truth is the first item of defense for the Christian.  And it is not a mistake that Satan has successfully attacked us (the professing Church) in this area.  Cultural pressure, misinformed theology and Christian practice, and character weakness (read cowardice, indifference and shallow spirituality) have caused us to fall in this our first line of defense.  We are not honest in our relationships with each other and we are not honest in our relationship with God and therefore we remain childish and immature in our faith..

interactive, intense Bible truths with intellectual soundness, the simple yet profound and powerful words of God, God's intended meaning, not some mystery search, Bible truths prioritized -- love God, love neighbor, hang the rest on that, Bible truths that shape our theology and religion, not vice-versa, Bible truths not sentimentality or superstition, the Bible approached in the best way possible to give the Spirit the most opportunity in our lives

Jesus Christ is our focus in faith, in learning, in worship, in relationship, he is the only reason we have hope, he paid the way through his shed blood, his sacrifice was accepted through his physical, bodily  resurrection from the grave

"Jesus is the only One who can save people. His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save people. We must be saved through him" (Acts 4:12 NCV).
