Forever is a long time!
Have you thought much about "it"?
"It" being – what, if anything, comes next.
Is there any information that goes beyond wishful thinking that I can rely on?
Anything past religious sentimentalism?
Anything past secular skepticism?
I think so. Let's begin by looking at our options.
1. We live, we die, we cease to exist.
2. We live, we die, we hope there is life after death.
3. We live, we die, we have been taught there is a heaven and hope to go there.
4. We live our lives before God, we die with the assurance from the most reliable source
on this earth bar none that immediately after we draw our last breath, we go to be
with the Lord of the universe.
Whatever term you use. . .the Bible, Holy Scripture, God's Word. . .you can trust God's words – the most reliable source of information on this earth. Maybe you don't know that yet, but it is true.
The thing is you have to fight through all the stuff, including much of how God is portrayed by those claiming to be Christians.
I am here to help you fight through the stuff, even your own stuff, to come face to face with the words of God. Then, my part is done. You have to decide. But I just can't let go until you see what God actually says not what someone else says he says.
And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, "Who do the crowds say that I am?" So they answered and said, "John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered and said, "The Christ of God." (Luke 9:18-20 NKJV)
If you are sincere in your search for God, you will find him.
If you are sincere in your search for truth, you will find all the truth you need in the Bible.
You are quite possibly disillusioned about God, the Bible, Christianity. . .Believe me I have been there.
But I encourage you to not let go of your search for truth.
Keep fighting. You won't be sorry.
God is there. I know. And you will know too if you keep to the path.
There was a man named John who was sent by God. He came to tell people the truth about the Light so that through him all people could hear about the Light and believe. John was not the Light, but he came to tell people the truth about the Light. The true Light that gives light to all was coming into the world! The Word was in the world, and the world was made by him, but the world did not know him. He came to the world that was his own, but his own people did not accept him.
But to all who did accept him and believe in him he gave the right to become children of God. They did not become his children in any human way--by any human parents or human desire. They were born of God. The Word became a human and lived among us. We saw his glory--the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father--and he was full of grace and truth. (John 1:6-14 NCV)
"Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
who have set their hearts on pilgrimage."
(Psalms 84:5 NIV)
In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month.
The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.
They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light.
And they shall reign forever and ever.
(Revelation 22:1-5 NKJV)
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
